How to use the Sukanya Samriddhi calculator
Enter how much you will deposit every financial year (₹250 to ₹1.5 lakh), the interest rate and your daughter's age when the account is opened. The calculator shows the balance every year until the account matures, 21 years after opening.
Depositing the full ₹1.5 lakh every year for 15 years at 8.2% grows to about ₹71.8 lakh. You put in ₹22.5 lakh; the rest, about ₹49.3 lakh, is tax-free interest. If you open the account when she is 2, it matures when she turns 23.
How SSY interest is calculated
Interest is worked out every month on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month, and added once a year. Depositing before 5 April earns interest on the full year, which is what the calculator assumes.
Balance at year end = (opening balance + deposit) × (1 + rate)
You deposit for the first 15 years only. For years 16 to 21 the balance keeps earning interest without new deposits.
